Below information, valid as of July 15, is subject to changing. We have set aside time to complete the testing either at the airport or local clinic. CMQ Hospital information on COVID testing in Puerto Vallarta A COVID antigen test is an assay that is used to detect a specific viral antigen (a COVID protein that is always present on the virus’ surface). If the test detects this COVID protein, one can infer that the virus is active and present. A COVID Viral Test is required for travel to the U.S. Since January 26th of 2021, a negative pre-departure test result is required for travel to the US. The only two COVID lab exams valid for travel to the US are a COVID Antigen Test or a COVID PCR Test. Both tests meet the requirements for re-entry. A PCR test evaluates the virus RNA in the nose or throat swab sample. This is the most accurate test . The Antigen test evaluates specific proteins on the surface of the virus and is less accurate but sufficient for re-entry. The test specimen must be collected no more than 72 hours before scheduled departure. Antigen testing can be done at the PVR Airport and other locations Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport Carretera a Tepic Km 7.5, Área Militar de Vallarta, 48311 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico Antigen test is $450 pesos ($22 USD); PCR test is $1,450 pesos ($71 USD), applicable to international passengers on international flights. How to prepare for your COVID Antigen Test Make appointment well in advance. Confirm appointment. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to appointment. Keep face mask on. Fasting is not indispensable, but it is recommended: although fasting before your test is not needed, it may be a good idea to avoid eating two to three hours before your appointment. This could help you to be more comfortable when your swab sample is taken. Make sure your information and email are correct: it is extremely important that the laboratory receives your correct email and personal information. Late September may still be seeing light rain. Bring a poncho and closed toe-shoes.
The peso is currency of Mexico. To save time and hassle, purchase pesos at your Napa bank before you depart. Plan on 3 to 6 business days; check with your bank. Exchange rate at your bank will generally be as good or better than what you get at cambios in PVR. There are exchange cambios (kiosks) in Old Town. Most are open til 9pm, but anticipate standing outdoors in line. Banks may still be closed to travelers due to COVID-19. Many businesses will let you pay in USD, but their exchange rates are not great. Credit cards are accepted by some businesses. To avoid an international fee, check to see if your credit card assesses a charge. Examples of in-Mexico purchases subject to international fees include: - extra baggage from PVR - MX to USA in-flight purchases - gifts, duty-free at airport - food at airport - extra charges at hotel - dining out, restaurants - grocery / markets - special phone calls outside of your plan - check policies for app use, including your Uber app In advance, confirm the exchange rate and ask if there are additional fees. There are no US Bank branches in Puerto Vallarta. An exchange desk is available in the terminal before you pick-up your luggage. Clothing Rain poncho Solid, closed foot walking shoes Hat, sunglasses Sunscreen, swimsuit Loose-fitting, light color cotton clothing Cargo shorts Nicer evening outfit for optional nights out Short cotton cover-up / bathrobe Fitness Mat or towel, small perspiration towel; will you need a chill pack for sore muscles? However, when we visit outlying areas including small restaurants, consider drinking bottled water. Remember, margaritas have water / ice in them! Keep a large and filled water container with you. Weather will be hot and humid. Alcoholic beverages are included in some meals, but in modest portions. Please plan on ordering and paying for your own alcoholic drinks. Tips of 12 to 20% to your servers will be greatly appreciated. --reservations, policies--
